Bayview Hospital hires risk manager

Bayview Hospital recently announced the inclusion of a risk manager to its staff complement. The position, geared at improving patient care and employee safety, is expected to help the hospital become one of the safest on the island.


Patricia McAllister, a career registered nurse with 15 years’ military service with the Barbados Defence Force (BDF), was appointed to the position. Mc Allister said that she was pleased to join the Bayview family. “I am elated to share the knowledge and skills that I have gained in the military, and as a civilian in the hotel sector with the team at Bayview to bring about a safe, healthy and homely environment,” she said.


A University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus alumnus, McAllister holds a BA (Hons) in Psychology and a Master’s in Public Health. She also holds certification in the areas of dental, occupational safety, and health and food safety.


McAllister’s managed the BDF’s Dental Unit and the operation of the hyperbaric chamber. In 2000, she joined the Sandy Lane Hotel as its registered nurse. She developed, implemented and managed the processes, procedures, and policies for the medical facility, which included the provision of medical care for guests and employees.


During her 16-year tenure at Sandy Lane, McAllister managerial responsibilities expanded into the areas of risk and compliance, safety and health to ensure compliance locally and internationally. Her duties did not end there, as she also undertook responsibilities in the areas of food safety, hygiene practices, and human resources.


Hospital Administrator, Julie Reid said that she was pleased to welcome McAllister and to introduce the new position to the hospital as part of its master plan to continually upgrade Bayview while maintaining its standing as one of the safest and leading medical facilities on the island.
